Anwesha Maity

Advisor:
Mary Layoun

Anwesha Maity wrote her M.Phil dissertation on Bangla (Bengali) and Japanese Science Fiction from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, in 2007 and after a brief stint with the corporate workplace, decided to pursue her doctoral degree at UW Madison. Currently in her fifth year at CLFS, she is writing her dissertation on postcolonial Bangla science fiction from West Bengal and Bangladesh under the direction of Prof. Mary Layoun. She is interested in exploring how the construction of history, colonial and post-colonial science and science policy, as well as literary/philosophical systems indigenous to Bengal and India may broaden the 'horizon of expectations' of an Anglocentric understanding of the genre.
